Oversize & Heavy Haul
Wide loads, handled start to finish
Equipment, machinery, and structures that won't fit legal limits need planning, permits, and people who've done it before. That's the job.
When is it oversize?
Know the legal limits
Width
8' 6"
Over this is oversize in every state
Height
13' 6"
Typical limit, varies by state
Gross Weight
80,000 lb
Federal limit for truck + load
Trailer Length
48' to 53'
Longer loads need permits
Over any of these, the load needs a permit. Not sure? Send us the specs and we'll tell you.
The plan
How we run an oversize move
- 1
Measure & weigh
Exact length, width, height, and weight, plus loading points and photos. This decides everything else.
- 2
Pick the trailer
Flatbed, step deck, RGN, or lowboy, chosen to keep the load as legal and as low as possible.
- 3
Route & survey
We map a route that clears bridges, overpasses, and weight limits. Tall or heavy loads get a survey.
- 4
Permits & escorts
Permits from every state on the route, with lead and chase pilot cars when the permit calls for them.
- 5
Haul & deliver
Moves within permitted travel hours, with updates to you until it's off the trailer.
Questions
Oversize FAQ
What makes a load oversize?
Generally, freight is oversize when it's wider than 8'6", taller than about 13'6" (varies by state), longer than standard trailer limits, or pushes the truck over 80,000 lb gross. Oversize loads need state permits and sometimes pilot cars.
How are oversize rates figured?
Miles traveled, number of states crossed, load dimensions and weight, number of escorts required, permit costs, and any travel restrictions. Send us the specs and we'll give you a firm number.
Do you handle permits and pilot cars?
Yes. We pull permits for every state on the route and coordinate lead and chase escorts when the permit calls for them.
How much notice do you need?
Standard freight can often move within a day or two. Oversize loads need time for permits and escorts, so the earlier you call, the better. Rush moves are possible depending on the route.
